Artist Statement:
I always tell my students that executing a quilt like this where it
is not the color of the pieces that is important, but their value
reinforces the importance of lightness and darkness in the fabrics
you choose. This particular piece is shaded in two opposite directions
with brown and blue squares, so the piece looks completely different
depending upon how much light is in the room. In a well-lit space,
the shading of the brown fabric is noticeable, but in a darker room
the shading of the blue squares is what the viewer notices.
